Unless otherwise noted, all programs begin at the South Slough Reserve Visitor Center, located 4 miles south of Charleston on Seven Devils Road. Programs may be cancelled due to low enrollment or hazardous weather. Activity fees and donations help support youth education programs. Reservations are required for all programs. Golden and Silver Falls Hike 3/15/2025 10:00 AM
Hidden gems in the dense emerald forests of Southwest Oregon, Golden and Silver Falls are transformed by the spring rains into raging giants. During the 3 mile, moderately- strenuous, hike we will explore the falls and rich natural and cultural history of this special place. Things to bring: rain gear, sturdy waterproof hiking boots, water bottle, lunch and snacks. We will provide transportation from Coos Bay. [Max 16] (Free but registration is required).

Enjoy a delightful walk on the beach among towering sea stacks with developing colonies of boisterous seabirds at the beginning of their nesting season. With a little luck we will also see Harbor Seals hauled out on the lower reaches. Refuge volunteer and educator Carol Maude will lead the program. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair from us. Please note: some may fi nd the 130 steps down, and back up from the beach, beyond their capabilities so please take this into consideration before registering.
