The North Bend Public Library will host Dr. Aaron Coyner for a Planetarium Show on Earth Day, Tuesday, April 22nd. SWOCC will provide their portable planetarium for the show, which is entitled "Jupiter's Ice-Encased Moon, Europa." Europa is the fourth largest of Jupiter's moons and the sixth closest. It has an icy crust that scientists think may be 10 to 15 miles thick and hides a global ocean of salty water below. Attendees to the Planetarium Show will experience an up-close view of Europa and learn more about its frozen world. The drop-in planetarium show will begin every 30 minutes with the last one starting at 8:00 PM. Space in the planetarium is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Dr. Aaron Coyner is a solar physicist and faculty member at Southwestern Oregon Community College. He has research experience having spent graduate school at Rice University, and a 3-year post-doctoral research term at NASA/Goddard Spaceflight Center. Since 2019, he has been a NASA Solar System Ambassador with a goal to make space accessible to everyone.
